Community Ecotourism and Adventure Sports
We are a nature and community based tourism company that was born from the dream of giving back to the Municipality of San Francisco Antioquia and the surrounding municipalities and its farmers the recognition of their traditions and natural resources.
This project seeks to link the local community and surrounding municipalities to develop ecotourism proposals to take you to live the most incredible adventures in the middle of nature, forests, rivers and waterfalls until now little known.
If you are a traveler, like nature, share with the people of the countryside, walk through the most beautiful mountains and enjoy adventures in the natural environment, you can not miss these places.
Our departures are from Medellin or from San Francisco itself.
Our forests.
San Francisco is located two hours from Medellin in one of the areas with a large extension of tropical rainforests, which has great biological diversity. This makes our municipality a suitable place for ecotourism, but also for research and protection of its natural resources.
The natural vegetation of the municipality of San Francisco corresponds to humid and very humid forests, with a high number of endemic species, a wide floristic richness and heterogeneity.
The place formerly called “El Morrón”.
San Francisco was founded in 1830 as a district of the municipality of Cocorná.
In 1986 it was erected as a municipality with the name of San Francisco, in memory of the saint of the same name.
This territory was formerly an indigenous settlement, dating back to pre-Hispanic times.
From it depart several bridle paths that reach the Magdalena River and that in past centuries were used intensively by the muleteers paisas.
San Francisco is located in Colombia in the eastern sub-region of Antioquia, 96 km and 2 hours from Medellin by paved road.
It is bordered on the north by the municipality of San Luis, on the east and south by the municipality of Sonsón and on the west by the municipalities of Sonsón and Cocorná.
Nickname: Ecological Window of Eastern Antioquia.
Land of paths and mountains.
San Francisco is nestled in the mountains of Eastern Antioquia and offers a unique panoramic view, as you can see in the distance the canyon of the Santo Domingo River, the Melcocho River and the Verde River.
We have an extensive network of paths that connect us with the surrounding municipalities.
These paths go through large extensions of tropical rainforest and virgin and crystalline rivers that originate in the depths of the mountains.
Some of our paths date back more than two thousand years, as they were built by the indigenous people who inhabited these territories.
Other roads were built during the colonial period and later by our muleteers, who created a great network of roads to communicate our villages and neighbouring municipalities.
Rivers, streams, waterfalls and crystal clear pools.
We have more than 70 streams and 8 rivers, among them the Santo Domingo river, the Verde river, the Samaná river, the Calderas river, the Claro river, the Chumurro river and the Caunzal river.
This also provides us with a large number of waterfalls distributed throughout the territory.
Among them are the Maleficio waterfall, the Esplendor waterfall, the El Tagual waterfall, the La Vega waterfall, the La Mona waterfall, the Palo Santo waterfall, the Las Brujas waterfall, the Heresma waterfall, among others.
